St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, is celebrated worldwide on or around October 4. Faith communities hold pet blessings and similar events throughout autumn to honor the saint’s devotion to all of God’s creation.
The congregation of The Episcopal Church of St. Alban, 1730 Hill Street, S.E., Albany, will continue this tradition. Pet Blessings will be offered at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 4th, 2015 on the churchyard grass outside the building.
The short service consists of prayers, scripture readings and the individual blessing of each animal and his or her companion. If you wish to attend, but your pet does not travel, you may bring a photograph or a stuffed animal, or simply come to join with us in giving thanks for our common relationships with one another and our Creator.
In addition to showing gratitude for these relationships, we remember also how much humans and the environment share with each other. With every breath we take, we receive creation within ourselves and find sustenance.
The congregation invite you to be with them at St. Alban’s, on the corner of 18th and Hill, SE., just south of Queen Avenue. The church phone number is 541-967-7051.
